"The BeAuTiFul Word  FoR You"

"The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teen Readers"

Habit 1: Be proactive. Take responsibility for your own reading. Read what you want to read, and take the time to read regularly.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind. Decide what your goals are for reading for the fun of it. Do you want to increase your reading speed? Increase your reading skills? Stimulate your imagination? Pass the time quickly? Gain new knowledge? All these can be accomplished if you develop a reading habit.

Habit 3: Put first things first. Make reading for the fun of it a high priority in your life.

Habit 4: Think win-win. Reading for the fun of it can have a positive effect on your life. Your grades will improve. You will talk about books to your friends and parents. You will learn more about using the library.

Habit 5: Seek first to understand then to be understood. Reading for the fun of it will open up whole new worlds to you. You will meet more interesting people than you have ever met before. You will gain an understanding of why people do what they do. You will be a more empathetic listener when friends tell you of successes and failures.

Habit 6: Synergize. Find a place for yourself in a community of readers. Join a book discussion group and share your reading and thinking with others. Share your thoughts about books you have read at: www.ala.org/teenhoopla.

Habit 7: Sharpen the saw: Renew your reading interests regularly. Find new reading interests. Try new authors, new magazines, and new formats like the e-book.
